Sac SmugMug ShootOut - Auburn, CA

About a week ago, I attended a model shoot out put on by the Sac SMUG Club on Facebook. Headed up by Nicole, another local photographer, there were a total of 6 different models to photograph including seniors, kids, brides & a formal bridal couple. The weather was odd that evening, so time was a crunch to get all the groups to each person in time. The entire time I kept the 50mm 1.4 on in order to keep myself moving and challenged without using a telephoto lens like I usually do. I made it to 5 of the 6 sets, and here is one of each of my favorite shots from each one!Loved photographing this couple! (surprise, surprise, right?) If I could have, I would have snuck them away from the giant photographer mob scene and photographed them on my own for hours! What I learned is that I am DYING to do a model type shoot on my own. Probably not with as many people, and probably not all in one day either. I might start contacting some people randomly just to get some practice and build my own portfolio. So don't be surprised if you get a random "let's do a shoot!" text from me one of these days :) Listed below are the details as far as make up artists, florist, etc in order of photo appearance.

Josh & Holly - Senior Ball 2011

You've seen Josh quite often on here (I'm sure more often than HE would like to be true), but the last time you saw Josh & Holly was nearly two months ago when they went to Junior Prom with each other. This time, I convinced them to meet me down at Capitol Park for their shoot after they had dinner, and we spent some time walking around taking photos wherever we could find fit. Unfortunately, it got dark SUPER early due to some storm clouds rolling in, but we made due with what we could!oh, those band kids... ;)
this next one is quite possibly a favorite. if not THE favorite from all of them :)
Holly looks fabulous as always... and Josh manages to clean up well for a night on the town.
I left out the action shot, due to dark plus action blur... but there was definitely some "Singing in the Rain" action going on involving heel clicking and spinning around lamp posts.
Hope you two had an excellent time at Senior Ball, and congratulations on graduating high school next week!

Josh & Jacob - Class of 2011

Five years ago (wow... was it really that long ago?) my cousin Ben and I had our cap and gown photos together. Mine were black for Del Oro, and his were red for Victory Christian. We had some odd ones, if I recall correctly, but they served their purpose for the relatives. Now, our brothers finally have come to their time to have their cap and gown photos together in their respective colors. We shot these a few weeks ago at Mission oak park in Carmichael, along with some photos of Jacob in his letterman jacket (those to come tomorrow!).gotta have the "back to back" cousinly pose. I swear we have one of these from nearly ever dance recital growing up. Must keep the tradition up!
After graduation, Joshua is headed off to Sierra College in Rocklin, while Jacob will head to my soon to be alma matter Sacramento State. Not sure either of them have a decided major, but no shame in that! It took me over a year of community college before I knew photography was what I wanted to do :)

2011 Prom Shoot

I wanted to do a shoot that could serve two purposes. One, to help promote Senior Ball sessions this Saturday (May 7th) in the Sacramento area (exact location TBD) for Del Oro Seniors. I'll be out there photographing my "little" brother and his date plus friends, so why not offer it up to others? The second reason for this shoot? To have some fun on a Saturday afternoon! I mean, seriously? Who doesn't love a good reason to dress up fancy with your friends? I know I would! I gathered some juniors and seniors off my trusty facebook friends list, and made some plans! They brought a few friends, and we shot around the Griffith Rock Quarry for awhile and had a great time.the ladies got there first, so we got some fun "girls only" photos before the boys arrived. And the color coordination? totally unplanned!
Of course, had to have the girls gather around the first guy to arrive. That would be one prom to remember if this was really how their group was!
I found out I had a "for reals" couple in the mix, so I had to make THEM work it. and they sure did? Can you say adorable? (can you also say I love her dress?)
After this next shot, I informed them that this would be the cover for their next album. They're all a bunch of band/choir kids... so it is totally a possible endeavor!
I hope you guys and gals had as much fun as I did! It was sure nice to feel like I was back in the high school crowd again :) If anyone is interested in group rates for a senior ball session THIS SATURDAY, email me ASAP at photogbyem@gmail.com to claim your space. only so many slots will be allotted in order to get a one of a kind session!

Josh & Holly - Jr. Prom 2011

it was the last corsage in the store, and it was perfection. white roses, black ribbon, glitter out the wazoo, she had to have it. i might have been convinced i wanted it more for myself, but can you blame me? i haven't been to prom since 2006, and finding out my brother had a "date" to prom, it had to happen. Josh & Holly have been friends since they met freshman year through del oro's marching band, and they have now fought their way to senior status. from what i've heard, prom was the talk of the table a few weeks ago at a winter competition for the colorguard/percussion programs. Holly was asked if she was going to prom, and if she had a "hot date." what she answered, and what others heard could potentially be two different things. she might have asked Josh if he was going to prom, and he might have interpreted it as asking if he would go with her. the answer was a simple "okay" to whatever the question may have been. we spent the early part of the evening shooting a few photos outside the blue goose in loomis before they headed off to dinner at the macaroni grille. and i might have requested some bread to be snuck home, and Josh might have interpreted it as i expect him to buy two dinners and bring me home one. either way, the answer was a simple "okay" ;)we were shooting outside, in the cold, wind and rain. "Joe" from Del Oro's Rugby club offered for us to go inside and shoot around in there. of course we took full advantage! unfortunately, the gate to the upper level was locked, and i couldn't convince Holly to climb the gate in her dress, so we used these awesome steps leading up to it and shot there.in case you don't believe me... here is proof of how windy it seriously was. or you can just be amazed by my tie posing :)and these next two i used the excuse "okay, we need some for the moms!" when really, i just wanted a picture of holly by herself in her dress. gorgeous! alright, i'll say it. Josh cleans up pretty well himself!
hope you too had a fabulous time at dinner & prom (hey, getting in for free as seniors, it might as well be fabulous!) and when its time for senior ball, you'll know where to find me! maybe it won't be windy, rainy & cold that day.
